All You Ever Wanted to Know About Insurance

When the Right Insurance Protects the Independent Beautician

Are you one of the many beauticians that work on their own in a rented space of an established beauty salon or privately inside your home?

Having the right form of insurance coverage can protect you from potential liability.

Hair Stylist, Nail Technician, Massage Therapist, Makeup Artist Insurance

Even if the salon you work at as an independent contractor has insurance, that policy may not cover your liability.

Independent beauticians should have related professional liability for all the things that can go wrong as you render services, such as:

  • Hair cutting and styling

  • Manicuring

  • Pedicuring

  • Waxing

  • Electrolysis treatments

  • Skincare

  • Dyeing

  • Tinting

  • Giving massages

  • Applying makeup

The following is just a sampling of associated insurance claims.

  • A manicurist cut too deep, causing the customer to suffer from an infection. Accumulated medical bills came to $76,300, while the independent beautician experienced an $11,350 loss of wages.

  • When a beauty customer broke out in a skin rash as a result of the hair dye used, the beautician was sued for $25,000.

  • While massaging, the therapist accidentally dislocated the customer’s shoulder. The customer sued the massage therapist for $150,000 in damages.

For more information on insurance for the beautician, massage therapist, hair stylist or barber, speak to an experienced independent insurance agent.
